No. 5 SOU cruises against Evergreen

ASHLAND – Senior outside hitter Marin Mackey had 13 kills and seven digs and No. 5 Southern Oregon's underclassmen got time to shine in a 25-17, 25-12, 25-14 defeat of Evergreen (Wash.) on Saturday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

The Raiders' perfect weekend made them 14-1 overall and 8-1 in the Cascade Conference. They went deep into their bench against the Geoducks (3-9, 3-6), getting six kills from freshman outside hitter Kendyl Arnett, 17 assists and three service aces from redshirt-freshman setter Alex Ching-Sam, and 13 digs from Amanda Moffat.

The usual suspects also produced during their time on the court. Sadie Byrd had six kills and four blocks, Megan Perry and Hannah Stadstad recorded seven kills apiece, and Kayla Neidigh collected 18 digs.

The Raiders allowed an even .000 attacking average by the Geoducks, who had as many attacking errors (18) as kills (18). They were the seventh SOU opponent of the season and second in as many nights to hit sub-.100.

Redshirt-freshman right-side Friley Curtiss smacked four kills in her only set played. Sophomore middle Tessa Zimmermann finished with six.

The Geoducks, paced by Sophia Scroggins' five kills and four blocks, never led.

SOU rounds out its homestand at 6 p.m. Wednesday against Oregon Tech, which improved to 3-6 in the CCC by defeating Northwest (Wash.) in straight sets Saturday.
