SOU keeps rolling at Warner Pacific

PORTLAND – The Southern Oregon women's basketball team's offense kept humming in an 87-56 Cascade Conference win against Warner Pacific on Saturday afternoon at Perry Gymnasium.

Behind Meghan McIntyre's season-high 18 points and Emma Schmerbach's 15 points, eight assists, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks, the No. 4-ranked Raiders improved to 15-0 overall and 9-0 in the CCC with their sixth consecutive 30-plus-point triumph.

They ended the weekend shooting over 50% from the field in back-to-back games for the first time in nine years. After hitting at 59% in Friday's drubbing of Multnomah – their highest clip since 2017 – they knocked down 54% of their attempts against the Knights (6-10, 3-7). They're now fifth-best among all NAIA teams in offensive efficiency, a category in which they ranked 72nd a year ago.

Morgan Baird, coming off a 21-point, 10-of-11 outing, went 7-of-13 to drop in 16 more points. She had six in the first quarter, where Schmerbach recorded five of her assists, to push the Raiders to a 20-8 lead.

Guards Emily Fortin and Tonkin McKeeley combined to score 37 for the Knights, and Fortin's 3-pointer cut SOU's edge to 44-38 at the 5:43 mark of the third quarter. A 21-2 Raiders run ensued, and they held WPU without a field goal for the next nine minutes of action. McIntyre keyed the surge with nine third-quarter points.

The Raiders, winners of 18 consecutive road games and 29 consecutive regular-season contests dating back to last season, have kept each of their last 12 opponents under 60 points. They've scored 80 or more in six of those games.

They got strong bench production from Eliza DiGiulio, who went 5-of-6 with 13 points, and Sierra Scheppele, who went 4-of-6 with 10. Mallory Williams pitched in six, hitting her only two attempts from 3-point range.

The Raiders have won 13 straight games on the Knights' home court since there last loss there in 2013.

They're back home next Friday to face No. 13 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) in a noon tipoff, attempting to match the best start in team history. Seven of their next nine games are in Ashland, where they've only played twice to this point.
