ASHLAND – Four Southern Oregon University football players have been named Academic All-District team members for the 2024 season, the College Sports Communicators announced this week.
SOU's honorees were receiver
Sawyer Cleveland, linebacker
Ty Glumbik, defensive lineman
Mipam Jampa and offensive lineman
Gustavo Mendez, who helped the Raiders to an 8-3 record that landed them the No. 24 spot in the postseason NAIA coaches' poll.
The award is designed to recognize student-athletes for a combination of their performances on the field and in the classroom. To become eligible, an individual must be at least a sophomore with a minimum GPA of 3.5 and participate in at least 90% of their team's games or start two-thirds of them.
The Academic All-America teams will be announced later this month. Last year,
Spencer Kuffel (who missed 2024 due to injury) became the fifth Academic All-American in team history.
Cleveland, who completed a bachelor's degree in business with a 3.8 GPA, made the All-Frontier Conference second team for the second year in a row as a senior.
Glumbik, too, capped his career with All-Frontier second-team honors. He also earned a degree in health and exercise science with a 3.98 GPA.
Mendez, an All-FC honorable mention recipient, graduated with a degree in education studies and a 3.56 GPA. Jampa, a key reserve for the Raiders, is a biology/biomedical sciences major with a 3.76 GPA.
