ASHLAND – Late-set execution keyed the No. 14-ranked Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) volleyball team's 28-26, 25-23, 25-20 win against Southern Oregon in a Cascade Conference match Saturday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
The Warriors scored the final three points of the first set, ended the second with a 3-1 spurt, and held on in the third after building a comfortable lead to complete their first regular-season sweep of the Raiders since joining the conference.
Led by Juliauna Forgach Aguilar's 13 kills and eight digs, LCSC brought its record to 12-3 overall and 9-3 in the CCC. Teagan Scott totaled 31 assists and seven digs, and Karissa Lindner had seven kills without an error and assisted five blocks.
The Raiders (8-11, 5-7) got eight kills from both
Andressa Ribeiro Soares (8 digs) and
Maya Watters.
Ane Tuinauvai (3 blocks) and
Tessa Zimmermann (4 blocks) contributed seven apiece. They were haunted by 25 attacking errors, only eight of which were the result of Warriors blocks.
SOU, coming off Friday's five-set win over Walla Walla (Wash.), served with a 26-25 lead in the first set before an Abby Beaton kill tied it. Lindner and Scott then teamed up for a block, and Taylor Boyce dropped in a kill to give the Warriors the win.
Lindner and Scott came up with another key block that put the Warriors up 24-22 in the second after breaking a tie on SOU's service error. Lindner delivered the clinching swing.
Mia Jaeger distributed 19 assists and
Annie Hite delivered 17 for the Raider attack, which landed on a .132 average.
