Rocky stops SOU's unbeaten streak, 1-0

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Southern Oregon men's soccer team's season-opening unbeaten streak ended at nine games on Thursday night with a 1-0 loss to Rocky Mountain (Mont.) in Cascade Conference play at Herb Klindt Field.

Lorenzo Klamler registered the lone goal in the 54th minute, taking a shot that deflected off of a Raider defender in the box and found its way to the net. It was Klamler's sixth of the season and made the Bears 3-1-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the CCC.

The Raiders dropped to 8-1-1 and 3-1-0. They were shut out for the first time in 13 games dating back to last season and outshot for the first time this year, 16-6.

Senior goalkeeper Casey Ruvolo kept them in the game by making six saves.

SOU, which was No. 29 overall in this week's NAIA coaches' poll, had won its last five games against Rocky and never been kept off the scoreboard in 11 previous matchups.

The result, however, was not the first of the high-quality variety secured by the Bears. In non-conference play they earned draws against Missouri Valley and Baker (Kan.), which were at that point ranked Nos. 9 and 15, respectively.

The Raiders visit the only team left with a perfect CCC record, Carroll (Mont.), on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
