CALDWELL, Idaho – The Southern Oregon University volleyball team pushed No. 19-ranked College of Idaho to five sets before falling victim to a dominant performance by the Yotes' pins on Friday night at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
Outside hitter Mia Hutchinson had 22 kills and 11 digs, while right-side Cierra Bohrn tacked on 21 kills and five blocks in C of I's 23-25, 25-16, 25-21, 20-25, 15-10 Cascade Conference win. The pair combined to commit just five errors on 71 attacks, leading the Yotes (14-8, 8-7 CCC) to a .372 attacking average that was the best for an SOU opponent in CCC play this season.
SOU (10-12, 7-8), after stealing the fourth set, led 7-5 in the fifth when the Yotes rattled off six straight points. In the middle of the run was a Hutchinson kill followed by back-to-back blocks that Hutchinson and Bohrn assisted.
The Raiders were attempting to complete a regular-season sweep, having come back to take the teams' first matchup in five last month. They got 13 kills on a .391 attack from
Friley Curtiss, 14 kills from
Maya Watters and a seventh double-double from
Andressa Ribeiro Soares, who amassed 10 kills and 14 digs.
Tessa Zimmermann pitched in eight kills without an error and three blocks.
Mia Jaeger led the team with 27 assists,
Tais Vega had 11 digs and
Maelle Garon added three aces.
The biggest difference in the match was C of I's lopsided 15-3 advantage in blocks. Abigail Flerchinger assisted eight of them while dropping in 15 kills.
The Raiders entered the night having won their last three five-set matches.
They'll finish the road trip at 4 p.m. Saturday against top-ranked Eastern Oregon.
