ASHLAND – Southern Oregon University's Friley Curtiss and Andressa Ribeiro Soares were rewarded for outstanding production on the pins with All-Cascade Collegiate Conference selections on Thursday.

Curtiss, a sophomore right-side hitter, and Ribeiro Soares, a senior outside hitter, were both first-team honorees for the No. 24-ranked Raiders. Kiauna Mack of top-ranked Eastern Oregon was voted the player of the year.

Curtiss has enjoyed a breakout campaign in her first year as a starter, ranking 12th among CCC players at 2.9 kills per set. Of the players ahead of her on the leaderboard, only four own a better attacking average than her .240 clip. The 6-foot-1 product of North Bend, Wash., also has the 12th-most blocks in the circuit (81) and averages 0.8 per set.

Two weeks ago, in a four-set win against then-No. 21 Northwest (Wash.), Curtiss had 26 kills – the most for any Raider in 14 years – on just 42 attempts.

Ribeiro Soares, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, proved to be one of the CCC's top two-way players in her first full season on the court. She was one spot behind Curtiss on the kills leaderboard at 2.8 per set and ranked ninth in digs at 3.1 per set. Only one other player in the conference was top-15 in both categories.

In Tuesday's match against Walla Walla, Ribeiro Soares registered her 11th double-double of the season with kills and digs. On Oct. 14 at Oregon Tech, she became the first Raider in a decade to go for 20-plus of each in the same match.

At 14-14, SOU will learn on Monday if its season will be extended into the NAIA National Tournament.
