KLAMATH FALLS – Four Raiders scored double digits and the Southern Oregon offense found its groove for its first win of the season, defeating Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) 83-56 on Friday night at Danny Miles Court.
Gio Evanson led all scorers while coming off the bench with a season high 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting. The junior from Ridgefield shot 6-of-7 from the free throw line while adding two rebounds and two assists.
The Raiders (1-3) trailed 28-30 with seven minutes remaining in the first half before a Brady Rice layup, then an Emmett Fenz 3-pointer sparked a 20-7 SOU run to end the period.
Elijah Jackson posted 15 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals. The senior guard shot an efficient 3-of-4 from downtown and knocked down all four of his shots from the stripe. Rice scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds, and Bryce Dyer logged his first double-double of the season, recording a season high 13 rebounds – including six offensive boards – and scoring ten points.
In the second half, the SOU defense held Our Lady of the Lake (2-2) to just 24% shooting from the field. The Saints cut the deficit to eight with 14:23 remaining in the game, but an ensuing 12-2 Raider run over the next five minutes put the game out of reach.
Southern Oregon outrebounded Our Lady of the Lake 51-35. The Saints also committed 21 personal fouls, giving the Raiders 17 points from free throws on 25 attempts.
The Raiders play a second game in the Oregon Tech Classic, taking on No. 23 Hope International (Calif.) on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
