NAIA TOURNAMENT BRACKET
ASHLAND – The record-breaking Southern Oregon women's soccer team isn't done yet. For the second time in program history, the Raiders are through to the NAIA National Tournament.
After spending a few days on the bubble, they received an at-large bid when the 40-team field was announced on Friday. They'll travel to Winona Lake, Ind., to face Morningside (Iowa) in a first-round game on Thursday, Nov. 20.
The tournament's top eight seeds received first-round byes. The SOU-Morningside winner will advance to play host Grace (Ind.), the No. 7 overall seed, on Nov. 22, and the last 16 teams standing will play out the remainder of the tournament Dec. 1-8 in Pensacola, Fla.
Game times have yet to be announced.
The Raiders made their only previous tournament appearance in 2019, when they won a first-round game before falling to the No. 1 seed in the second. They're back in at 14-2-2, having already established a new program wins record by going unbeaten in 13 of their last 14 games.
In Thursday's final NAIA RPI ranking, SOU was No. 21 and Morningside was No. 63.
The Mustangs, standing at 11-1-5 overall, got in automatically by winning the Great Plains Athletic Conference regular-season title. They went out in the quarterfinal round of the GPAC Tournament after reserving a spot in the NAIA playoff field for the first time in 10 years.
Grace will be waiting in the second round with a 15-2-4 record. After placing third in the Crossroads League standings, the Lancers got past No. 2-ranked Marian (Ind.) in penalty kicks to capture the Crossroads Tournament title.
A complete preview will be published next week.
