COMPLETE ALL-FC WEST LIST
ASHLAND – Southern Oregon's
Gabe Foster and
Fresh Ison got first-team spots and
Brandon Barthel appeared twice on the All-Frontier Conference West Division list, which was announced Thursday by the FC office.
A total of eight Raiders received postseason recognition.
Aukai Grace,
Raiden House and
Spencer Kuffel were named to the defensive second team, and honorable mention went to
Trevor Jaasko and
Bryson Kievit.
Foster, a senior defense end, collected his second first-team honor in as many seasons at SOU. The product of Gardnerville, Nev., accumulated 7 ½ sacks and 13 tackles for losses, ranking second in the West in both categories, and finished with 44 total tackles. Over 21 career appearances for the Raiders, he had 17 ½ sacks and 27 ½ tackles for losses.
Ison, a graduate-transfer running back from Oakland, Calif., supplied 5.6 yards per rush – the highest clip for any player in the division who averaged at least five carries – and 58.9 per game with six touchdowns. He appeared in every contest and was most effective down the stretch, when he registered back-to-back 100-yard efforts and totaled 287 on the ground over his last three outings. He added 11 receptions on the season.
Barthel, a senior from El Dorado Hills, Calif., made the second team as both a receiver and return specialist. He was second among all FC West receivers in both yardage (87.2/game) and touchdowns (11), also landing at No. 4 leaderboard for total receptions (53) while posting 100-plus yards on four occasions. As a returner, he averaged 29.8 yards on 18 kickoffs and brought one back 93 yards for a touchdown.
Grace and House were recognized for the first time and Kuffel earned his second career All-FC nod for a defense that limited opponents to 23 points per game. Grace, a senior corner from Hawaii, compiled 22 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and a blocked kick with six pass-breakups. House, a sophomore linebacker from Citrus Heights, Calif., was seventh in the division at 7.4 tackles per game and had three sacks in his first season as a starter. And Kuffel, the senior safety from Tigard, came back from a season lost to injury with 56 tackles, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. He also became the first Raider in a decade to reach 10 career interceptions.
On the honorable mention list, Jaasko was seventh in the division with an average of 60.7 reception yards and four touchdowns, while Kievit contributed 28 tackles and 9 ½ for losses on the defensive line.
Montana Western, which missed the postseason, produced the FC West Player of the Year in quarterback Michael Palandri and the Offensive Player of the Year in Eli Nourse. Mike Moroski of division champion College of Idaho was named Coach of the Year.
