ASHLAND – Southern Oregon started the second half on an 11-2 run to break open a tied game and take control of an eventual 71-61 win against Corban in Cascade Conference action on Friday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
Brady Rice gave SOU the spark it needed, starting the push with a 3-pointer and sustaining it with a steal, an offensive rebound and a second-chance bucket. The sophomore guard scored nine of his 13 after the break and pulled down six rebounds, leading five players in double figures.
The Raiders upped their record to 5-5 overall and 3-0 in the CCC heading into Saturday's 5 p.m. matchup with Bushnell. They're one of three unbeaten teams remaining in circuit play.
Bryce Dyer was a rebound short of a double-double, going 3-of-4 from the field and 6-of-6 at the free-throw line with 12 points, nine boards and four assists.
Elijah Jackson scored eight of his 11 in the second half, where he knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and distributed three assists.
Gio Evanson scored 12 off the bench and
Joe Juhala put up 10 points and five rebounds.
The Raiders overcame 16 turnovers with a 12-point advantage from 3-point range, where they held Corban to 2-of-10 shooting, and a 10-point edge at the line.
Joe Gould kept the Warriors (5-6, 1-2) close by going 9-of-11 with game-highs of 21 points, five assists and four steals.
They had SOU's lead down to 60-55 with four minutes left before Rice made a pair at the line, the Raiders got a stop, and Juhala hit Evanson for a 3-pointer. Moments later, Jackson found Juhala by himself inside for a dunk that capped the 7-0 surge.
Jack Chlumak gave the Raiders eight points and three assists, getting all three of his buckets after the break.
SOU has kept all three of its CCC opponents under 70 points. The Warriors have lost five in a row in Ashland.
