ASHLAND – A familiar trend is emerging for opponents of the Southern Oregon women's basketball team: They're finding points hard to come by, and the No. 18-ranked team in the NAIA was not immune on Friday evening.
The Raiders kept Corban 33 below its season average to win 57-50 in a Cascade Conference matchup at Lithia Motors Pavilion, taking down their first Top 25 victim of the season. Senior guard
Bridgette McIntyre provided 18 points, four assists, and the knockout blow in a two-point game with 25 seconds left by stepping into her third 3-pointer.
SOU (8-3 overall, 3-0 CCC) has won eight of its last nine games and defeated Corban (9-2, 2-1) in 11 consecutive head-to-head contests.
Dating back to last season, the Warriors became the 10th opponent in a row to visit SOU and depart with fewer than 60 points. The Raiders have given up an average of 44.3 through their first three conference games.
Warriors guard Jersey Huerta – who led the circuit in scoring last year for the now-defunct Multnomah University – poured in 18, but SOU limited her to 2-of-7 shooting in the second half, where Corban came up with one bucket in the opening 7 ½ minutes.
Huerta's final bucket cut SOU's lead to 52-50 with 1:29 remaining. She had a chance to tie on Corban's next possession but was well contested at the rim and couldn't get her floater to drop. Moments later, McIntyre made her pay.
Junior point guard
Keeley Wright helped SOU maintain pressure on both ends with 11 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists. She finished a pair of drives early in the fourth quarter to quell some of SOU's own offensive issues.
Eliza DiGiulio contributed seven points and six rebounds,
Sage Winslow tacked on six points and two steals, and
Alex Bullock and
Lydia Traore collected two steals apiece.
The Raiders mounted a plus-eight advantage in turnovers by forcing 22 and held Corban to 36% shooting, including a 3-of-24 showing from beyond the arc.
Corban – which never led after going into halftime down 32-31 – totaled 16 of its points on second-chance opportunities, getting five offensive rebounds from both Emilia Bishop and Tayla Yost.
The Raiders will bring a four-game winning streak into Saturday's 3 p.m. game against Bushnell, their last before breaking for the holidays.
