SHAWNEE, Okla. – A four-run fifth inning helped Campbellsville (Ky.) deal No. 4 Southern Oregon its first loss of the season, 6-3 on Sunday morning at FireLake Ball Fields in the final session of the NAIA SB Invitational.
Rylee Warner drove a three-run home run in the decisive frame for the Tigers, who improved to 5-1 despite being out-hit 11-8.
The Raiders (11-1) trailed 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning when
Hailey Seva lined a game-tying double that plated
Piper Love. In the bottom half, however, Jessie Daniels lifted a solo homer that put Campbellsville back in front for good.
The shot also led to the departure of SOU pitcher
Ayla Davies, who took her first loss after allowing two hits and two runs over four innings. The freshman left the tournament – where she logged three wins, a no-hitter and a one-hit shutout – with an 8-1 record and a 0.79 ERA.
SOU brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but Ellie Coley finished off the save to give starter Leah Holland a hard-earned decision after five innings of work.
Love,
Sarah Kerling and
Christina Tadvick had two hits apiece for the Raiders.
They begin Cascade Conference play at home next week, hosting Warner Pacific for doubleheaders at 1 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday.
