SOU breaks program record with 22nd consecutive win

By Isaac Fernandez, Assistant SID

ASHLAND
Meghan McIntyre had 17 points and five steals and Emma Schmerbach added 17 points, nine rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals as No. 4 Southern Oregon set a new program record by extending its winning streak to 22 games with a 67-41 defeat of Bushnell on Friday Night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

The Raiders (22-0 overall, 16-0 Cascade Conference) shot at a 46% clip to win by 20-plus for the third consecutive outing. They outscored the Beacons 38-22 in the paint and recorded 16 second-chance points.

McIntyre and Schmerbach – who went 15-of-21 combined from the field – scored 13 apiece in the second half and spearheaded a relentless defense that forced 16 turnovers and held the Beacons to 27% shooting.

The Raiders had a cold second quarter, going 4-of-15 from the field, but still held onto a 27-24 lead at the half.

A 22-0 Raider run ensued after an Eliza DiGiulio jumper put the Raiders up 45-35 with 1:38 remaining in the third quarter, and didn't end until Bushnell (9-14, 8-9) scored its first points of the fourth with 2:02 left to play.

SOU outscored the Beacons 40-17 in the second half and held them to just six points in the final period.

Morgan Baird added 10 points with three assists and a block. DiGiulio finished with eight points and three assists.

The Raiders are one of three unbeaten teams left in the NAIA. They completed their fourth straight regular-season sweep of the Beacons.

Mandy Sisul led Bushnell with nine points and seven rebounds. She hit all three of her 3-pointers before halftime.

SOU faces Corban (10-13, 8-9) at 3 p.m. Saturday.
