ASHLAND – Zuri Reeser stacked up 21 kills and Ryan Coughlin accounted for five of Arizona Christian's 11 service aces, keying the Firestorm's 25-23, 25-16, 20-25, 25-21 upset of No. 6 Southern Oregon in the Raider Invitational on Saturday at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
Coughlin compiled four aces in a five-point span as ACU broke a third-set tie with seven consecutive points, busting out to a 13-6 lead. She also finished with nine kills, 10 digs and three assisted blocks to help her team finish 3-1 in the season-opening tournament.
ACU's aggressive serving stymied the SOU attack, which finished at .094 efficiency – the team's lowest since the 2023 season.
Senior outside hitter
Andressa Ribeiro Soares recorded 14 kills, 11 digs and four aces, leading the Raiders in all three categories.
Kaylie Christopher added six kills,
Annie Hite distributed 20 assists and
Amanda Moffat collected 10 digs.
Brynn Golba contributed 10 kills on 23 attempts for the Firestorm. She and Reeser raised the team's attacking average to .172.
The Raiders wrapped the weekend at 2-1 after debuting Friday with sweeps of Simpson (Calif.) and Park (Ariz.).
They'll travel next weekend to Fullerton, Calif., for four matches at the Hope International Summer Slam, where they'll meet three NAIA Top 25 opponents.
