ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon soccer teams swept Monday's Cascade Conference Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors, as
Ariel De Dios Cruz was recognized on the men's side and
Ava Johnson earned the women's award.
De Dios Cruz, a sophomore from Eugene, was instrumental throughout the Raider men's team's perfect opening week. He scored both goals in their 2-0 debut win Thursday at Pacific, including a perfect 55-yard strike to start the scoring. In Saturday's 2-1 defeat of Benedictine Mesa (Ariz.), he was credited with an assist on the game's first goal.
Johnson, a sophomore from West Sacramento, Calif., enjoyed a career-best outing with five points in the Raider women's opener, Saturday's 5-0 drubbing of Benedictine Mesa. She was involved in three of the first four goals, tallying two – including the first of the game – and assisting another. She became SOU's first underclassman since 2016 to accumulate five points in a game.
The Raider men travel this week to Arizona, visiting Ottawa on Thursday and Arizona Christian on Saturday. The Raider women play their second counter Sunday at Simpson (Calif.).
