REDDING, Calif. – The Southern Oregon women's soccer team notched its second shutout and win of the season after a 2-0 victory over Simpson (Calif.) on Sunday afternoon at California Soccer Park.
Payton Puppe-Wotipka and
Macie Yannoni both found the back of the net as the Raiders (2-0) handed the Redhawks (1-1) their first defeat of the year.
Puppe-Wotipka, a junior defender from Mukilteo, put SOU on the board in the 14th minute with her first goal of the season and the second of her career.
Frida Vargas and
Abby McKean were awarded with their first assists of the year on the play.
Yannoni, a true freshman from Los Gatos, scored her first goal in a Raider uniform off an assist from
Kaylah Bresee in the 47th minute to push the Raider lead to 2-0.
SOU keeper
Brittany Standley kept Simpson off the board with five saves, earning her first career win.
The Raiders improved to 10-0-1 all-time against the Redhawks.
They begin a five-game homestand starting with Hope International (Calif.) on Sept. 4 at noon.
