EOU slows down Raiders for 60-51 win

ASHLAND – A series of cold spells, the most costly of which was a four-minute scoreless stretch to end the game, doomed the Southern Oregon men's basketball team in a 60-51 loss to Eastern Oregon on Saturday evening at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

Less than 24 hours removed from their best 3-point performance of the season, the Raiders misfired on 27 of 34 attempts from deep in their first home setback and fell a game back of first place in the Cascade Conference standings.

Jace Anderson's three-point play cut EOU's lead to 52-51 with 4:34 remaining, and a successful defensive stand gave the Raiders the ball with a chance to take the lead on their next possession, but Keilan Torkornoo's strip marked the first of eight consecutive Mountaineer stops that brought them to the final buzzer.

EOU (12-4 overall, 7-1 CCC) retained the lead for the duration of the second half and swept its road trip to SOU and Oregon Tech for the first time this century. James Bodily scored 15 points off the bench and shot 3-of-5 from 3, where the Mountaineers were 8-of-16 as a team.

SOU dipped to 9-7 overall and 7-1 in the CCC ahead of Tuesday's 7:30 p.m. home game against Oregon Tech, the team tied with EOU in first place.

Anderson scored 13 points, Elijah Jackson had 11 with three assists, and Bryce Dyer contributed eight points, eight rebounds and two steals for the Raiders. They shot a season-low 30% from the field – hanging around thanks in large part to their 16 offensive rebounds – and their point total was the team's lowest at home in four years.

Eamon Monahan logged 14 points and six rebounds for the Mountaineers, putting up seven and two assists in the second half.
