Lewis-Clark State heats up late to trip up SOU

LEWISTON, IdahoElijah Jackson joined Southern Oregon's 1,000-point club but Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) outscored the Raiders by 14 over the final eight-plus minutes to hand them their first Cascade Conference loss, 72-65, on Friday night at the P1FCU Activity Center.

The Warriors (10-3 overall, 4-1 CCC), after going down 59-52 on Bryce Dyer's layup with 8:58 to play, took control by hitting four straight 3-point attempts in a span of three minutes. Jamare Childs connected on all four of his tries and LC State made 10-of-14 downtown as a team.

The Raiders (7-6, 4-1) saw their winning streak snapped at five games. They were shut out after Gio Evanson fed Luke Wagstaff for a bucket inside to cut their deficit to 66-65 with 4:21 remaining.

Evanson logged a team-high 15 points and was especially sharp in a first half that SOU led throughout, eventually bringing a 35-32 edge into the break. The teams traded the lead seven times in the second.

Jackson scored 14, hitting double figures for the 11th game in a row, to become the 27th Raider ever to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Brady Rice went for 12 points and six rebounds, while Dyer downed 4-of-5 attempts for the field to record eight points and nine rebounds – including six on the offensive end.

LC State – which received votes at No. 30 overall in the latest NAIA coaches' poll – posted a 30-10 advantage in bench points, getting 15 from Brandon Suber. Childs added 13 and Dallon Morgan hit 3-of-4 3-point attempts.

The Warriors outscored the Raiders by 15 from 3-point range on 10 fewer attempts. They and the Raiders are now among four one-loss teams in the standings behind unbeaten Oregon Tech, which goes to Lewiston on Saturday.

SOU completes the trip at 8 p.m. Saturday against Walla Walla (Wash.) and returns to Ashland next week to face College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon.
