Anderson, Jackson lead Raiders to another tight win

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Cascade Conference's top scorer made Southern Oregon sweat, but Jace Anderson and Elijah Jackson combined for 47 points on 18-of-19 shooting to lift the Raiders to a 97-89 win against Evergreen (Wash.) in their 10th consecutive clutch game Friday night at the Costantino Recreation Center.

Geoducks wing Tony Frohlich-Fair poured in 35 points and had his team's deficit down to two in the final four minutes. The first-place Raiders (12-7 overall, 9-2 CCC) countered with 65% shooting – their best mark in four years – and Anderson put the finishing touches on his perfect outing with a layup that sparked a runaway 7-0 SOU run, stretching the lead to 90-81 with 2:23 to play.

Anderson, a redshirt-freshman forward, was the star attraction within a double-take-demanding box score. He made all nine of his field-goal attempts, scored a career-high 20 points, corralled six rebounds and came up with a game-high four steals.

Jackson, meanwhile, shot 9-of-10, was perfect on four 3-point tries and hit 5-of-5 at the line to score 27. He had 17 in the second half, where Gio Evanson added 14 to finish with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Raiders ended the night in a three-way tie for first with Eastern Oregon and Oregon Tech. Lewis-Clark State fell out of the deadlock with a last-second loss to College of Idaho that left both of those teams one game back in the standings.

An 11-of-19 display from 3-point range helped SOU defeat Evergreen (3-10, 3-8) for the 28th consecutive matchup. This one was the closest between the teams in eight years and the continuation of a trend for the Raiders: they're now 8-3 in clutch games, defined as being within five points at any time in the final five minutes.

Bryce Dyer went 4-of-6 with a pair of 3-pointers, totaling 10 points and four assists. Brady Rice had seven points and seven boards, and Trey Neff contributed two big 3s down the stretch.

Frohlich-Fair's performance raised his season average to 24.8 points. He was 13-of-18 from the field, helping the Geoducks shoot 53% as a team.

SOU finishes the road trip at 5 p.m. Saturday at Northwest (Wash.), which fell just short of knocking off Oregon Tech in Friday's 79-75 loss.
