ASHLAND – Eastern Oregon set a physical tone early and puzzled No. 15-ranked Southern Oregon throughout a 2-0 upset in Cascade Conference play on Friday afternoon at Raider Stadium.
The defending-champion Mountaineers (3-3-5 overall, 3-2-3 CCC) limited the Raiders (9-2-1, 5-2-0) to three harmless shots on goal in becoming the second team to shut them out this year, bouncing back after consecutive home losses last weekend. They're unbeaten in their last 13 CCC road games dating back to 2024.
Henry Lopez notched his fourth goal of the season in the first half and Davyd Fedina got his fourth in the second both on outstanding individual efforts. Lopez went down the left sideline in the 40th minute and top-spun an angled, 20-yard shot inside the far post, while Fedina took his defender all the way to the end line in the 80th before backtracking a few feet and firing from up close.
Rene Prieto and Christian Samayoa were credited with assists on the plays.
The Mountaineers improved to 2-1-1 against Top 25 opponents this season.
The shutout went to Victor Melendez, who was largely untested as EOU compiled 15 shots to SOU's eight. The Raiders only managed one attempt in the first half.
SOU keeper
Daniel Espinosa made six saves.
The Raiders, still in third place with five regular-season games remaining, host College of Idaho at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
