ASHLAND – College of Idaho scored two unanswered goals early in the second half and left Laurel Field with a 2-1 Cascade Conference win against No. 15-ranked Southern Oregon on Saturday afternoon.
JP Warnell gave SOU (9-3-1 overall, 5-3-0 CCC) a 29th-minute lead by going one-two with
Agustin Gannat, but Yotes keeper Yago Gonzalez kept the Raiders off the board the rest of the way by making nine saves.
C of I (3-5-5, 3-2-4) pulled even in the 53rd minute with Chris Slater's 27-yard direct free kick. In the 58th, Mitch Cameron pressured and took a ball off a Raider defender to set up Alfie Roffey for a 15-yard strike that proved to be the winner.
The Yotes won for the third time in four games on the heels of a nine-game winless streak.
They dodged a number of bullets, a couple of which came from SOU free kicks on the edge of the box that Gonzalez knocked away in the second half. In the first half, they watched
Jonathan Gaspar's strike line off the post and bounce back harmlessly into play. And in the final seconds, they blocked a well-struck Gaspar attempt in the box and saw
Agustin Gannat's header sail just over the crossbar as time expired.
The Raiders have dropped three home games in one season for the first time since 2015, leaving them in fourth place on the table with four regular-season games remaining.
Warnell's goal was his fifth of the year. Slater got his second and Roffey deposited his fourth.
SOU plays next weekend at second-place Bushnell and eighth-place Corban.
