No. 17 Raiders take down Eagles in 4 sets

ASHLAND – The No. 17-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team got back on track with its sharpest attack in a month and libero Maelle Garon's career night in a 25-17, 22-25, 25-15, 25-9 win against Northwest (Wash.) on Friday at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

Friley Curtiss poured in 16 kills, Briella Mathis had 15, and both converted more than half of their attempts as the Raiders (13-6 overall, 5-4 Cascade Conference) hit at a .289 average – their best mark yet in CCC play.

The Raiders committed nine attacking errors during their second-set hiccup. Outside of that frame, they combined for 10 and hit at a .375 clip.

They prevented the Eagles (6-12, 2-7) from matching thanks in large part to Garon, a sophomore from France. She had 30 digs, establishing a new career-high and becoming the first Raider to hit that number in a four-set match since 2013.

The Raiders got additional defensive help from Kaylie Christopher (12 digs, 3 aces), Katie White (10 digs, 2 aces), Isabelle Foote (9 digs, 22 assists) and Tessa Zimmermann (4 blocks).

Marian Vega Castro bolstered the offense with 10 kills. Maya Watters needed just 11 attempts over two sets to contribute seven, and Annie Hite directed the attack throughout the contest with 33 assists.

Northwest finished with a .132 attacking average. Trinity Godina was the only Eagle to reach double figures, amassing 10 kills.

The Raiders ended the night in sixth place in the CCC, but just one win behind three teams tied for third. They complete the first half at 6 p.m. Saturday by hosting Evergreen (Wash.), which is 1-8 in conference play.
