ASHLAND – The draw-happy Carroll (Mont.) women's soccer team reeled Southern Oregon in after the Raiders took an early lead in a 1-1 Cascade Conference tie on Friday afternoon at Raider Stadium's Laurel Field.
The Raiders (6-0-3 overall, 3-0-1 CCC) capitalized on a blunder 39 seconds into the matchup by the Saints (2-2-5, 1-0-3), whose wobbly, errant pass on the back line left striker
Tori Lasch with a clear view of the net for her seventh goal of the season.
Carroll manufactured an answer in the 70th minute. After Delaney Moczan's corner kick was batted around in front of the goal, it eventually went off the chest of a Raider and toward Makayla Schnabel, whose header leveled the score for good.
The Raiders were inches away from tacking on. In the 42nd minute,
Brooklyn Hayes nicked the left post. And in the 84th,
Autumn Jackson peppered the crossbar from straight on before
Carter O'Shea's shot on the rebound was corralled by Saints keeper Maria Ackerman.
Akcerman made three saves on the day and SOU's
Ashlyn Fuss collected five.
Both attacks were busy: Carroll got off 17 shots, the Raiders had 11, and both teams had five cracks at set pieces on corner kicks.
Lasch's goal was her team-leading seventh of the season, a number that ranks second in the CCC. Schnabel scored her fourth.
SOU had gone 411 minutes since last allowing a goal until Schnabel converted.
The Raiders are home again on Saturday to face Rocky Mountain (Mont.), which stayed unbeaten in CCC play on Friday by defeating Oregon Tech. Carroll will visit OIT.
