EUGENE – A second-half attacking flurry enabled the Southern Oregon men's soccer team to come from behind and salvage a point at Bushnell with a 2-2 draw on Friday night at Civic Park.
Staring down a 2-0 deficit and a potential third straight defeat, the Raiders (9-3-2 overall, 5-3-1 Cascade Conference) came alive with a pair of goals in an 83-second span.
Mustafa Daggig created the first in the 61st minute, dribbling through two defenders, retrieving his own ball at the end line and serving it back to
Jonathan Gaspar for a quick strike from up close. Moments later,
Elias Ahmed took a corner kick that
Agustin Gannat leapt through a crowd to control and slot in with his head.
The Beacons (9-1-5, 5-1-3) conceded momentum after getting the first goal of the game a couple minutes before halftime from Joao Maia and doubling their lead in the 58th thanks to Emmanuel Rea. They did well to save the tie, however, with the Raiders out-shooting them 19-8.
Bushnell put only one other shot on frame.
Gaspar's goal was his fourth of the year. Gannat's was his third, as well as his third scoring contribution in SOU's last four games.
The Raiders stayed unbeaten on the road at 7-0-1.
They stand in fourth place with three regular-season games remaining, all against teams with sub.-500 CCC records. The next is at 7 p.m. Saturday at Corban.
