SALEM – The Southern Oregon and Corban men's soccer teams exchanged dramatic goals over the final two minutes and tied 1-1 on Saturday night at the Warrior Outdoor Athletic Complex.
The No. 15-ranked Raiders appeared to have stolen three points when, with 1:41 remaining,
Mustafa Daggig streaked in and finished a ball served by
Elias Ahmed from outside the box with a lined header.
But with 11 seconds left to spare, the Warriors generated an answer. They leveled the score on a set piece, getting a well-placed corner kick from Jaycob Miller to Christ Ramirez for an untouched header of their own.
The draw made the Raiders 9-3-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the Cascade Conference. They're part of a three-way tie for fourth place entering the final week of the regular season, when they'll host Walla Walla (Wash.) next Friday and Warner Pacific in the Nov. 1 finale. Both opponents will be fighting for their postseason lives.
Daggig and Ahmede had also played major roles in Friday night's 2-2 decision at Bushnell, where SOU erased a 2-0 deficit. Daggig assisted the first and Ahmed assisted the second in a span of 83 seconds.
For the second night in a row, the result was incongruous with the run of play. They outshot the Warriors (5-4-4, 2-4-4) by a 15-8 margin after doing the same at Bushnell, 19-8.
SOU's
Daniel Espinosa made five saves and Corban's Rylan Davidson came up with five.
