No. 12 Saints turn back Raiders with dominant 2nd half

HELENA, Mont. – Southern Oregon blanked Carroll (Mont.) for the first 29 minutes but watched the No. 12-ranked Saints put up six unanswered scores the rest of the way and lost 38-7 on Saturday night at Nelson Stadium.

The Saints kept pace with College of Idaho as co-leaders of the Frontier Conference West Division, moving to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the circuit ahead of the teams' matchup next week. They did it behind quarterback Kaden Huot, who threw five touchdown passes against the Raiders (3-6, 2-3) for the second year in a row and totaled 221 yards on 14-of-21 accuracy.

SOU, whose McCade Long got his first start at quarterback, went in front with an 11-play, 93-yard drive that Fresh Ison finished with a one-yard touchdown dive in the first quarter.

The Saints didn't get on the board until 37 seconds remained in the second, when Huot found Ty Wilkinson for a 13-yard TD that tied the game at the break. After coming up empty on their first first five drives, they found the end zone on five of their next starting with that one.

Carroll posted a 395-242 advantage in total yardage, came up with three takeaways and got to Long for nine sacks. Henry Goss registered three of those.

Long, a junior from Granite Bay, Calif., who has served as backup each of the last three seasons, completed 11-of-20 attempts for 130 yards. Dawson Douglas caught five for 50 yards and Coen Coloma added 57 on the ground.

Defensive backs Isaiah Griffin and Antonio Vasquez Williams both notched 10 tackles for the Raiders. Stephen Del Giudice III had a sack and Bryson Kievit and Jude Mendoza shared one.

The Raiders have a bye next week and finish their season at home on Nov. 14 against College of Idaho.
