TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

REDDING, Calif. – The No. 2-ranked Southern Oregon University men's wrestling team pocketed five wins during the first day of the 2026-27 season, outscoring opponents 216-29 combined and shutting out three of them on Saturday at the Simpson Duals.

The Raiders – who only brought six of their 12 nationally-ranked individuals and used most of them sparingly – defeated Hope International (Calif.) (55-0), Westcliff (Calif.) (23-12), Menlo (Calif.) (50-0), Simpson (Calif.) (33-17) and Evergreen (Wash.) (55-0) in succession. They'd never before won five duals in a single day.

The closest of those was the Westcliff matchup, which was 13-13 heading into the 197-pound matchup when top-ranked Asher Ruchti stepped in for his only appearance and won a major decision. After a forfeit and a point deduction, the Raiders won by 11.

They were in a 12-11 contest with Simpson until winning four bouts in a row, getting pins from Colton Annis (165) and Seiya Thompson (174) during the run.

Vonn Fenn, an All-American in 2024-25 before sitting out last season due to injury, recorded a pair of bonus-point victories in his return to the mat at 125. Simon Graeber, another national qualifier who redshirted in 2025-26, was 4-1 with three pins and a major decision in his return at 133. All-American Tyler Rhue (141) went 2-0 and two-time national qualifier Dylan Clark (141) was 3-0.

The Raiders will bring some of their top wrestlers to the Collide All-Star Showcase next Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
