Southern Oregon goes to 13-5 in CCC with win over Knights

ASHLAND – Southern Oregon's 69-54 win against Warner Pacific at Lithia Motors Pavilion, paired with some help the Raiders received elsewhere in the Cascade Conference, set the stage for a compelling final week of the regular season on Saturday evening.

The Raiders limited their turnover total to three and the Knights' free-throw total to seven, a sound enough formula to take them to 16-10 overall and 13-5 in the CCC with two games left to play. They stand tied with College of Idaho for fourth place – and just one game behind co-leaders Eastern Oregon, Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) and Oregon Tech – ahead of their trip to EOU and C of I.

Elijah Jackson posted 12 points and six assists and Joe Juhala went for 11 points and six rebounds in what may have been the seniors' final home appearance. SOU needs a top-four seed to get back to Ashland for the quarterfinal round of the CCC Tournament on Feb. 25.

The Raiders let the Knights (5-21, 1-17) hang with them by shooting just 32 percent through the first half and trailed 45-44 before Bryce Dyer's bucket inside and Jack Chlumak's 3-pointer started a decisive 14-0 run near the 13-minute mark.

Dyer had nine points, seven rebounds and two steals. Gio Evanson added 10 points, six rebounds and four assists off the bench, Trey Neff scored eight and Emmett Fenz hit a pair of 3-pointers as part of the balanced display.

SOU swept the regular-season series for the 11th consecutive season against the Knights, who were led by Tyson Parker's 13 points and four assists.

The Raiders finished 8-2 in their CCC home games, keeping hope alive for their first regular-season title since 2005.

Four of the five teams still in title contention will go at it next week, as OIT also makes the trip to EOU and C of I. LC State – which had a one-game lead before suffering an upset defeat at Northwest (Wash.) on Saturday – finishes up at home with Bushnell and Corban.
