ASHLAND – The Cascade Conference champion Southern Oregon men's wrestling team and Raider softball players
Ayla Davies and
Vanessa Lang brought home CCC weekly awards, the league office announced.
The No. 6-ranked Raider men's wrestlers captured their second consecutive CCC title on Saturday in Salem, garnering Under Armour Team of the Week kudos. Their point total of 174 ½ was the highest in the history of the tournament, and they got their with five individual champions: 125-pounder
Isaac Hampton, 141-pounder
Tyler Rhue, 157-pounder
Avant Stepherson, 184-pounder
Adrian Chavez-Morales, and 197-pounder
Asher Ruchti.
SOU went 10-1 in placing matches, also getting All-CCC performances from third-place finishers
Braylin Ruchti (174 pounds) and
Elias Corona (184). For the second season in a row,
Joel Gibson was voted Coach of the Year.
Davies was named the McDonald's CCC Pitcher of the Week, presented by Urban Edge Network, and Lang got the Player of the Week award following top-ranked SOU's 6-2 stay in Oklahoma.
Davies went 4-1 with a 2.51 ERA across 30 2/3 innings on the trip, coming up one out short of a perfect game against Benedictine (Kan.) and shutting out No. 9 Science & Arts. She claimed the CCC's top pitching award for the second time in three weeks.
Lang, a senior second baseman, batted .429 (12-for-28) with three doubles, seven RBIs and five runs scored on the week. She ended the trip on a seven-game hitting streak and registered multiple hits in five of those to raise her average to .415 on the season.
