SALEM – Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) put the Southern Oregon women's basketball team in wait-and-see mode by hanging on to win a quarterfinal matchup in the Cascade Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank, 66-62 on Friday afternoon at the C.E. Jeffers Center.
The No. 6-seeded Raiders (19-10 overall) forced 14 second-half turnovers but found a 41-25 halftime deficit a little too much to overcome. The Warriors (22-7), ranked No. 17 in the final NAIA Top 25, avenged back-to-back CCC Tournament championship losses to SOU and advanced to play in Saturday's semifinals against No. 2 seed Eastern Oregon.
LCSC had its largest lead at 18 points one possession into the third quarter before the Raiders came back with a 15-0 surge. The Warriors, steadied by 3-pointers from Kendall Wallace and Tatum Brager, stretched it back to 10 by start of the fourth and iced the win on a pair of Sitara Byrd free throws with 14 seconds left.
Payton Hymas led five Warrior starters in double figures with 15 points and four assists. Byrd posted 11 points and 10 rebounds. Wallace scored 10 and collected five steals.
The Raiders will have to hope for an at-large bid when the 64-team NAIA National Tournament bracket is revealed next Thursday. The No. 33 spot in this week's RPI computer rankings gives them a strong argument to make a fifth consecutive appearance.
Eliza DiGiulio shot 8-of-16 with three 3-pointers, totaling 19 points, five rebounds and three blocked shots to lead SOU.
Bridgette McIntyre scored 13,
Sage Winslow had 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals, and
Keeley Wright chipped in five assists and two steals.
