SOU wins comfortably at Bushnell, moves to 12-3 in CCC

EUGENE – For the first time in two months, the Southern Oregon men's basketball team got to enjoy a stress-free finish and cruised to a quality 78-65 victory against Bushnell on Friday night at the Morse Center.

The Raiders (15-8 overall, 12-3 Cascade Conference) stepped on the gas early, scoring 13 unanswered points to take a 26-11 lead by the 7:20 mark of the first half. They pushed it to 20 early in the second and never looked back; it was the first time in 14 outings they weren't in a game that was within five points in the final five minutes.

Bryce Dyer and Elijah Jackson led the initial charge against the Beacons (11-11, 8-7), both shooting 4-of-5 before halftime. Dyer finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists, and Jackson departed with 12 points and three boards.

Gio Evanson paced five Raiders in double figures with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. He shot 8-of-14 from the field as part of the team's 52-percent clip and scored 12 in the second.

With five regular-season games remaining, the Raiders are tied for first place in the loss column with Eastern Oregon and Lewis-Clark State (Idaho). They'll play four of those on the road.

Their offense ran successfully early through inside feeds to Jace Anderson, who put up 10 points, five assists and four boards. Another Raider forward, Luke Wagstaff, came through with three 3-pointers and 11 points.

Defensively, SOU kept the Beacons at their third-lowest point total of the season. They entered the matchup averaging 80 and were sitting on 23 at halftime, held down by 4-of-17 shooting outside and only four second-chance points.

The Raiders swept the season series for the third year in a row.

At 5 p.m. Saturday they'll go for a sweep of Corban, which knocked Oregon Tech out of the first-place tie on Friday with a 90-70 upset win.
