Raiders win 7-0, 8-1 at Corban

SALEMAyla Davies threw a two-hit shutout and Lexi Ramirez followed with a one-hitter in back-to-back complete games as No. 3-ranked Southern Oregon climbed above .500 in the Cascade Conference with 7-0 and 8-1 wins against Corban on Friday at Warrior Field.

Davies struck out 10 in her superlative Game 1 start for the Raiders (23-9 overall, 6-5 CCC), which she led 5-0 before unleashing her first pitch. The sophomore was afforded that cushion in part by Ramirez, whose second home run of the year came with two runners aboard in the top of the first inning. Before that shot, SOU put its first two runners on base and Brooke Nordahl sent them both home with a single.

Kalea Thomas was one of the table-setters with three hits in the first game and a 4-for-7 doubleheader in which she stole three bases, scored three runs and drove in two. Nordahl, Ramirez and Avery Coffin joined her with four hits apiece on the afternoon.

In total, the Raiders out-hit the Warriors (2-18, 2-9) by a 26-3 margin.

It was a surplus of support for Davies, who improved to 11-5, and Ramirez, who went to 9-3. Ramirez was in the driver's seat after the Raiders scored five in the second inning of Game 2. She retired the first 12 Warriors she faced, struck out six, and gave up only a single and a walk in the fifth inning, allowing one run in a complete game for the fifth time in her last six starts.

Kierstin Grotewiel contributed a two-run double and an RBI single in Game 2, where Nordahl also had a pair of run-scoring hits. Ari Williams slashed an RBI double.

The teams will play another doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.
