1st-place Owls complete sweep of Raiders

KLAMATH FALLS – The No. 1-ranked Oregon Tech softball team held No. 5 Southern Oregon's lineup in check again on Tuesday, completing a four-game series sweep with 7-2 and 4-1 victories at Stilwell Stadium.

The Owls (38-4 overall, 19-2 Cascade Conference) extended their winning streak to 11 games and need to win just one next week at Eastern Oregon to clinch a fifth consecutive CCC regular-season title. They took a commanding lead early in the third and final conference counter of the set, getting three-run home runs from Sawyer Stenson in the first inning and Addison Kachnik in the second.

OIT pitcher Kristine Schmidt improved to 16-1 and held the Raiders (29-13, 10-8) scoreless until the sixth, when Carlee Strand and Lexi Ramirez lined back-to-back RBI doubles.

Carli Moore and Jenna Gorden combined to limit SOU to five hits in the finale. Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Gina Allen gapped a run-scoring double and Brooklyn Loose padded the lead with a sacrifice fly. Strand drove in another run for the Raiders with a sac fly of her own.

Freshman pitcher Thomara Drummer was a bright spot for SOU in relief. She worked 4 1/3 scoreless, one-hit innings in Game 1 and allowed one run over three frames in Game 2, benefitting from Michelle Hara's home-run robbery in center field.

OIT won the first two games of the series last Friday, 3-0 and 9-1. The second doubleheader was moved from Saturday to Tuesday due to inclement weather.

Entering their final home series of the regular season this weekend against Simpson (Calif.), the Raiders are tied for third place with British Columbia. First pitches against the Red Hawks are set for 2 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday.
