KLAMATH FALLS – The following sentence should come as no surprise to anyone with a cursory understanding of recent Southern Oregon softball history: The playoffs are here, and the Raiders suddenly look like the team to beat.

SOU took over the driver's seat in the Cascade Conference Tournament presented by U.S. Bank on Saturday, cutting down top-seeded and No. 2-ranked Oregon Tech, 4-1, in front of a knowing crowd at Stilwell Stadium.

The third-seeded and No. 6-ranked Raiders (40-13 overall) – who went 0-4 against OIT during the regular season and were outscored 23-4 combined in those matchups – hit the 40-win mark for the ninth consecutive season. They'll bring an 11-game winning streak into Sunday's 1:30 p.m. championship round, where they'll get two chances to win one game for their first CCC Tournament title since 2019.

Three batters into the afternoon, they were up 2-0 after a fielding error, Vanessa Lang's single and Brooke Nordahl's two-run double into left field. They doubled the lead in the fourth inning when sophomore third baseman Avery Coffin popped her first career home run to straightaway center off of Owls ace Kristine Schmidt.

Sophomore pitcher Ayla Davies, meanwhile, was exceptional again in a three-hitter. The right-hander had the shortest start of her career in her last start against the Owls (41-7), chased after recording five outs and allowing seven runs. This time she needed just 74 pitches to log her 22nd complete game of the spring and improve to 22-7.

Davies registered only one strikeout but didn't issue a walk, feeding a defense that play error-free behind her. She retired 12 of the last 13 Owls she faced after surrendering a fourth-inning solo home run to Addison Kachnik. Twenty-four hours early, she four-hit No. 2 seed Eastern Oregon.

Dating back to 2023, when the Raiders defeated the Owls in the NAIA World Series championship round for the second time in three years, SOU is 2-14 in the regular season and 5-1 in the postseason against OIT.

The Raiders will be appearing in the CCC championship round for the first time since 2024, when they fell to EOU.

OIT will play an elimination game at 11 a.m. Sunday against EOU or College of Idaho. The winner will advance to play SOU.
