Raiders keep rolling in conference opener at Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. – On the opening day of Cascade Conference play, the Southern Oregon women's soccer team's regular-season drought against Northwest (Wash.) ended and its unbeaten streak continued Friday at NU Field.

The Raiders' third shutout of the year was a 2-0 decision, swung by Ava Johnson's successful penalty kick in the third minute and Tori Lasch's goal in the 55th. They had last won at Northwest in 2019 and gone 0-4-3 in CCC matchups with the Eagles since then.

The Raiders improved to 4-0-2 overall, making their unbeaten run the longest of the season-opening variety in program history. It stretched to 10 regular-season games dating back to last fall, two away from matching another team record.

Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Ashlyn Fuss was sharp again with seven saves that negated Northwest's 12-9 edge in total shots.

Brycelin Endrikat, a freshman from Medford, was in the middle of both SOU goals. She drew a foul on a mistimed tackle by NU keeper Ali Tiechner to put Johnson at the penalty spot, and later delivered a crisp ball into the box that Lasch turned into a one-timer and Endrikat's fourth assist.

Johnson's goal was her fourth of the season and the 10th of her career. Lasch's was her CCC-leading sixth; each has been delivered in SOU's last three games.

The Eagles fell to 1-2.

SOU completes its trip at 12:30 p.m. Saturday against Evergreen (Wash.). The Geoducks were 2-1 losers against Oregon Tech in their CCC opener.
