ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon University football team rang up 504 yards of offense but couldn't keep pace with a high-powered Western Oregon squad in a 65-35 setback on Saturday afternoon at Laurel Field.
The Wolves (2-0), ranked No. 22 at the NCAA Division II level, logged the highest Raider Stadium point total ever for an opponent behind quarterback Jordan McCarty, who had 214 yards passing yards and two touchdowns on 13 attempts and ran in a third score, and Tony McAdoo, who ran for TDs of 81 and 50 yards on his only touches of the game.

Dom Montiel provided a career-best performance in the loss. The senior from Coos Bay completed 30-of-48 attempts for 385 yards, helping
Dawson Douglas to a career-high 114 yards on nine receptions.

Fresh Ison were all on the receiving end of a Montiel touchdown pass.
The Raiders dropped to 1-1. But their point total matched the highest allowed by the Wolves since 2024 and their yardage total was the highest WOU had yielded in nine games dating back to last season.
Junior running back
Gunner Yates' spry form was another encouraging development. He had a 33-yard touchdown run, netted 65 yards on six total carries and added an 11-yard reception.
The Wolves' however, had a 35-7 lead just 16 minutes into the game. Five of their scoring plays went for 30-plus yards and they returned a blocked punt eight minutes into the matchup to take a three-TD lead.

Raiden House led SOU's defense with 11 tackles and a strip sack.
The Raiders have a bye next week before going to No. 5-ranked Montana Tech on Sept. 19. The Diggers improved to 2-0 with Saturday's 24-14 win over No. 11 Carroll (Mont.).
