Prior to SOU: Spent the 2016 season as a redshirt at San Jose State.

High School: Graduated in 2016 from Luther Burbank High, where he lettered in football and track and field... As a senior, rushed for 2,124 yards and 27 touchdowns on 198 carries... Was twice named a Sacramento Bee All-Metro performer, and as a senior earned second-team All-Sac-Joaquin Section recognition.

Personal: Born on Dec. 11, 1997 in Sacramento... The son of Tomika Harper and Michael Roots; has an older sister, Teayshah... Intends to major in business.
