Former Southern Oregon Conference prep star Brant Minor joined the Southern Oregon men's basketball program as an assistant coach in the fall of 2009. In his time at Southern Oregon, Minor has seen tremendous improvement from his team each season. Minor played a key role in the recruitment of 2010-2011 Cascade Conference Newcomer of the Year Jordan Highland. Highland was a first team all CCC performer and also received NAIA All-America recognition.
Minor came to SOU after assisting the University of Portland’s women's basketball team as well as Warner Pacific's men’s team. He has worked basketball camps at Tennessee, Duke, Gonzaga and Oregon. Since 2004, Minor has also run his own youth camps in Grants Pass during the summer.
“Having the opportunity to work with two of the top coaches of all time in Pat Summit, as well as Coach K, has been an amazing experience," Minor said. "I have seen firsthand the passion and pride they both bring to coaching.”
A three-time All-Southern Oregon Conference selection at Grants Pass High School, Minor earned All-State honors as a senior. He was also an all-league soccer player at Grants Pass.
Minor played two years of NCAA Division I basketball at the University of Portland before graduating with honors from the prestigious Pamplin School of Business. Minor was also active in the nationally recognized Center for Entrepreneurship, which included trips to China, New York City, Washington, D.C., Dallas, Texas and Lincoln, Neb. Minor’s business plan for his basketball camps received first place at the University of Portland’s Legacy Challenge Business Plan Competition.
In 2009 Minor started the Oregon Stars, a traveling AAU basketball team that competes nationwide during the summers. The Oregon Stars give high school basketball players the opportunity to compete against some of the top talent in the country. The team was born out of Minor's desire to help the state's best young athletes improve as both basketball players and individuals.
In 2010 Minor started The Southern Oregon Showcase, a fall basketball league in Grants Pass. By 2011, the league boasted over 70 participants, each provided with the opportunity to play against high level competition in the months leading up to the high school season.
Minor is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Business Administration at Southern Oregon University.
