Avneet Shergill begins his second season on as Southern Oregon University’s top men’s soccer assistant in 2018 after helping lead the Raiders to their first Cascade Conference championship last year.
Prior to his time with the Raiders, Shergill was an assistant at University of the Pacific (Calif.) in 2016-17. There, he was part of the NSCAA DI Far West Region Coaching Staff of the Year after the Tigers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and set a division I record with an 11 ½-win improvement over the previous season.
Shergill earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Marshall University (W.Va.) in 2008. After earning All-Region honors at Tyler Junior College (Texas), he also competed at Marshall and went on to play professionally for the Portland Timbers U23 team and in Vasco Da Gama, India, for Salgaocar SC.
He began his coaching career in 2013 as the varsity head coach at RA Long High in Longview, Wash. He was later a youth coach for the Washington Timbers FC from 2014-16, and at Central Valley Monarcas Academy in 2016-17.
Shergill has earned a “C” coaching license from the United States Soccer Federation.
