Josh McDermott has been Southern Oregon University’s director of sports information since the 2013-14 academic year, in charge of writing news and notes, maintaining statistics and records, coordinating media coverage and promoting through social media for the Raider athletic department.
McDermott is a three-time Cascade Collegiate Conference SID of the Year. He has won five first-place awards in the NAIA-SIDA Publications and Media Contest – for his writing in the game recaps and notes categories, and for his graphic design work.
Prior to joining the SOU athletic department, he was a reporter for three years at the Roseburg News-Review. There, his work yielded awards from the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association and the Northwest Society of Professional Journalism for best writing, best sports reporting and best sports feature stories.
A product of Ashland High, McDermott played for the SOU men's basketball team from 2005-09 while studying journalism. His father, Brian, was the SOU men's basketball coach from 1996-2022.
