Scolamieri nabs Independent honor

Southern Oregon University senior defensive end Anthony Scolamieri (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos) has been named the NAIA Independent Defensive Player of the Week.

Kentucky Christian's Ricky Phillips earned the offensive award, while Southern Virginia's Shea Owens earned the special teams honor. Haskell's Greg Nilges was the freshman of the week.

Scolamieri earned the honor for the Raiders after totaling seven tackles (six solo), three tackles-for-loss and forcing one fumble in SOU's 15-14 setback to NCAA Division II Humboldt State on Saturday.

The Raiders (1-1) travel to NCAA Division IAA Sacramento State (2-0) this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
