SOU Hosts Morinomiya College

The Southern Oregon Athletic Department played host to students and instructors from the Morinomiya College of Medical Arts and Sciences over the last two weeks.

This marks the seventh time the Osaka, Japan school has sent students and instructors to SOU to learn about athletic training in the United States.

The program is put on in-part by former SOU head athletic trainer Mike Stevenson and current assistant trainer Yukio Kodaka.

During the 10-day stay, the group listened to lectures on anatomy of various joints in the body, information on common orthopedic surgeries, First Aid and CPR and a hands-on labs in athletic training and examination of various joints.

The group also observed the SOU football camp, toured the Ashland Fire Station and had a question and answer session with SOU team physician Dr. Hal Townsend. They also went on tours of Crater Lake and floated down the Rogue River.

On the last day of the program, the students from Morinomiya College hosted a Thank You Party at Emigrant Lake, in which the students donated a hydrocollator and a full set of dumbells and ankle weights to the SOU athletic training program as a gesture of their appreciation.
