ASHLAND Sean Rogers on Monday was voted the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week, becoming the first Southern Oregon University football player to win the award in 15 years.

Joining Rogers in receiving weekly awards were Elliott Cook, the Cascade Conference's volleyball attacker of the week, and Jessa Perkinson, who repeated as the CCC's women's runner of the week.

Rogers, a junior defensive end from Portland, dominated SOU's 36-7 win against College of Idaho on Saturday with four sacks, including a forced fumble that resulted in one of the Raiders' five takeaways. His sack total was the highest in a single game for the Raiders since at least the 2000 season and tied for the most in the NAIA this year. He totaled 10 tackles – another career-high – in helping seventh-ranked SOU improve to 7-0 for the first time in 70 years. He was also the Frontier Conference's defensive player of the week.

Cook, a freshman middle from Grants Pass, led the SOU volleyball team in kills in all three of its wins last week with 22 against Oregon Tech, nine against Multnomah and 11 against Warner Pacific – averaging 4.2 per set over 10 sets, all while attacking at a blistering .447 average. In Wednesday's win at OIT, her kill total was the highest for an SOU freshman and her average (.645) the highest for a Raider with 20-plus kills since in the last decade. She's the team's first CCC player of the week this season.

Perkinson, a senior from Roseburg, followed up her national-runner-of-the-week performance with another easy win Saturday at William Jessup's Warrior Invite. She ran a 5,000-meter at Springview Park in 17 minutes flat, beating out the runner-up by 34 seconds in a 77-person field. She'd also won the Invite last year.
