Spring Academic All-CCC list includes 31 Raiders

ASHLAND – Southern Oregon University put 31 student-athletes from its softball and track and field teams on the spring U.S. Bank Academic All-Cascade Conference list, which was released Tuesday by the league office.

To be selected for the honor, one must have been enrolled at the school for at least a year and reached sophomore academic standing with a minimum grade-point average of 3.2. A total of 331 golf, baseball, softball and track and field athletes were honored throughout the conference.

The Raider women's track and field team led the way with 12 representatives: Aspen Abbott (pre-physical therapy major), Natalie Berania (health and P.E./pre-physical therapy), Kayle Blackmore (communications), Marisa D'Orfani (accounting), Margot Hamman (business administration), Emily Lamb (biology), Lauren McGowne (education), Jessa Perkinson (psychology), Morgan Pfunder (business marketing), Jocelyn Schmidt (business administration), Hannah Schweighardt (elementary education), Erika Soderstrom (communications) and Bree Weber (biology).

SOU's men's track and field team had 11 honorees: Ryan Alexander (business administration), Zach Beltz (communications), Tristan Carpenter (undeclared), Joseph Dotson (biology), Zac Hannan (business administration), Noah Oberriter (pre-nursing), Aidan Paulk (psychology), Kevin Poteracke (financial mathematics), Ray Schireman (biochemistry), Ben Stevens (health and P.E.) and Mark Sussman (business administration).

Eight Raider softball players rounded out the list: Tiana Brown (mathematics), Abigail Lund (history), Taylor Martinez (health and P.E.), Aaliyah Oliver (health and P.E.), Davalin Ontiveros (health and P.E.), Kelsey Randall (business), Jazmin Ruvalcaba (health and P.E.) and Rebecca Velasquez (criminal justice).

For the 2016-17 academic year, 88 student-athletes from SOU's CCC-sponsored sports were Academic All-CCC honorees.
