Mejia, Perkinson voted CCC's weekly top performers

ASHLAND – Southern Oregon University seniors Remi Mejia and Jessa Perkinson earned Cascade Collegiate Conference weekly plaudits Monday, the league office announced.

For the third time this season, Mejia was voted the CCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Raiders (18-1 overall, 10-1 CCC) to another perfect weekend and helping them extend their winning streak to 11 games. The 5-foot-5 guard from Medford had 22 points in Saturday's 79-72 win against The Evergreen State (Wash.) – including 14 during a fourth quarter in which SOU erased a nine-point deficit – and 19 points and nine assists in Sunday's 96-67 win against Northwest (Wash.).

Mejia shot 17-of-30 from the field, 7-of-17 from 3 and picked up eight steals on the weekend. She's hit 40 3-pointers during the win streak and is the CCC's second-leading scorer at 17.9 points per game in conference play.

Perkinson, SOU's 10-time All-America distance runner, celebrated her indoor track season debut Saturday's at Boise State's Bronco Invite with a win in the 3,000-meter race and was subsequently voted the CCC Women's Runner of the Week. She finished in 10 minutes 9.47 seconds, about 13 seconds ahead of the race's runner-up. Her time converted to 10:14.72 on the national list and stands as the best in the NAIA this season by a margin of 8 ½ seconds.
