Raiders hit lucky No. 7

The Southern Oregon volleyball team battled through a poor hitting night to score a 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-16 victory over Warner Pacific for its seventh-straight victory tonight in Portland.

The Raiders improved to 10-7 overall and 8-1 in Cascade Conference play. Warner Pacific fell to 5-6 overall and 3-6 in conference play. Southern Oregon travels to Cascade College Saturday night.

SOU finished with an attack percentage of .129 and hit only .091 in the first set as they fell to the host Knights. The loss was the first dropped set for the Raiders in a month.

The Raiders bounced back in the next two sets, taking a commanding 2-1 set lead before hitting .423 in the final set to wrap up the match.

Senior Mia Wortel (Estacada, Ore./Estacada), sophomore Leah Bergstrom (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) and freshman Sarah Holgen (Honolulu, Hawaii/Ashland) all finished with nine kills to lead the Raiders. Wortel had nine kills with just one error for an attack percentage of .421 and also had three blocks.

Junior setter Lindsey Stone (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) had 36 assists for the Raiders and Maggie Rivers (Salem, Ore./McNary) finished with a career-high 22 digs.

Leah Gradwohl led Warner Pacific with a match-high 16 kills.
