The fourth-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team opened up with back-to-back pins and rolled to a 39-3 rout of NCAA Division I Portland State tonight at McNeal Pavilion.
The Raiders are now 5-1 overall and travel to the Tournament of Champions this weekend in Reno, Nev.
Three-time All-American
Trevor Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) opened up the dual with a 4:14 pin of PSU's Glenn Terrano at 133 pounds. Lofstedt, ranked fourth in the NAIA, has won his last three dual matches, including two by fall.
At 141 pounds, junior
Barry Johnson (Dayton, Ore./Dayton) gave SOU a 12-0 lead with a pin of Camrun Arkills in 4:39. Johnson is ranked second in the Nation and also has now won three in a row.
Seth Roy (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) (149) and
Tommie Hooper (Burns, Ore./Burns) (157) both scored major decision to push the Raider advantage to 20-0 after four matches.
Portland State stopped the Raiders streak with a Bryan Cantrell victory at 165, but SOU bounced right back with
Tyler Thomas (Salem, Ore./McKay)' victory at 174.
SOU closed out the match with five straight victories, including a pin by
Mitchell Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) at 125 to close out the match.
