Beavers Take Down Raiders

The Oregon State wrestling overcame some early Southern Oregon victories to score a 29-8 victory over the Raiders today at McNeal Pavilion.

The NCAA Division I Beavers improved to 3-2 on the year with the victory. Southern Oregon, ranked fourth in this week's NAIA Top 20 poll, dropped to 2-1. SOU hosts San Francisco State and Oklahoma City next Saturday.

The Raiders jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after freshman Mitchell Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) (125 pounds) scored a 13-5 major decision victory over Jake Gonzales.

The Beavers came back and tied the dual at 4-4 following a Kelly Kubec major decision at 133, but the Raiders shot back in front thanks to an impressive victory by second-ranked Barry Johnson (Dayton, Ore./Dayton) (141).

Johnson threatened a tech fall victory, but ended up an impressive 15-1 major decision victory over Ryan Harold and an 8-4 SOU lead after three matches.

But it was all Oregon State after that.

The Beavers won the remaining seven matches to take the McNeal Pavilion crowd out of the dual and score the victory.
