The fifth-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team won its 11th-straight dual meet tonight with a 26-12 victory over ninth-ranked Montana State-Northern at West Linn High School.
The Raiders are 13-1 on the season. SOU will take part in Saturday's Cougar Open in Oregon City.
SOU dropped the opening match as eighth-ranked
Mitchell Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) fell in overtime to top-ranked Corey Borges.
"Mitchell wrestled his tail off," SOU head coach
Mike Ritchey said. "It was a tough call in overtime, but I'm sure those two will see each other again down the road."
After the opening match, the Raiders went on a roll as they won the next six matches.
Senior
Trevor Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) won at 133 with a :43 pin.
Barry Johnson (Dayton, Ore./Dayton) (141) and
Seth Roy (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) (149) followed that up with back-to-back major decisions to push the SOU advantage to 13-3.
Next up was a 17-1 technical fall victory for
Tommie Hooper (Burns, Ore./Burns) and then a 12-1 major victory by
Austin Vanderford (Ninilchik, Alaska/Ninilchik).
SOU's run was wrapped up with a 4-1
Chase Locke (Tualatin, Ore./West Linn) victory at 174.
"We wrestled a little tired today," Ritchey said. "But that happens this time of year. We wanted to come out and crank it up and take some chances and we were able to do it."
